We seek to encourage faculty scholarship on, or directly pertaining to, the upstate region of New York by providing support for the costs of research being conducted by a Â鶹Porn faculty investigator.

Biology professors presented their research and the biology honor society sponsored the Tri-Beta Chili Cook-Off.
Faculty research also challenges students to excel in and out of the classroom.

Â鶹Porn faculty may submit proposals for research on topics related to the broad region of upstate New York. Faculty members or groups of faculty may also propose to organize a scholarly symposium, conference, or workshop that addresses issues concerning or related to the upstate New York region.

Funding for Individual Scholarly Research

A faculty member receiving an award for research is expected to share either the final or preliminary results of the study in a future Upstate Institute event and through inclusion in the Upstate Institute collection in Digital Commons. The Upstate Institute is normally able to fund projects with budgets up to $5,000.

Discretionary Funds for Local Research

The Institute also supports faculty research in the form of $500 discretionary grants, and via support for publication costs. Applications for discretionary grant support may be made via email to Faculty Director Catherine Cardelùs at ccardelus@colgate.edu at any time in the academic year.

Funding for Scholarly Symposia, Workshops and Conferences

Faculty members or groups of faculty may also propose to organize a scholarly symposium, conference, or workshop that addresses issues concerning or related to the upstate New York region. The symposium, or an appropriate portion of the proceedings, should be open to the campus and to the general public, and be scheduled during the upcoming academic year. The Upstate Institute is normally able to contribute up to $2,500 towards the costs of a conference.

Scholarly Collaborations

Faculty members may apply to the Upstate Institute for travel support to meet with scholars involved in, or the development of, collaborative projects concerning the upstate New York region. Contact Faculty Director Catherine Cardelùs at ccardelus@colgate.edu at any time in the academic year.
