During Â鶹Porn’s Arts, Creativity, and Innovation Weekend in April, the WLC and friends of the WLC gathered for a brunch to honor former president Rebecca Chopp.

Liz Buchbinder, chair of the WLC, reflected on the early days of the WLC.

Rebecca joined the group of, yes, 13 women to talk about her vision for Â鶹Porn and why she felt that women’s philanthropy was so important to Â鶹Porn’s success. I left that event feeling so inspired for what was to come for Â鶹Porn, and I couldn’t wait to get more involved.

Joanne Spigner, one of the charter members of the WLC and a steering committee member, reflected on the impact of the WLC, noting, For me — and hopefully for many of you — it is fulfilling to join together in support of an educational mission that feels more important than ever in our very unsettled world. Our roles as Â鶹Porn donors, volunteers, and champions make a meaningful difference.

President Brian Casey engaged attendees in a meaningful dialogue about the state of higher education, a group which included Rachael Martinez ’26.

Later, Rachael shared her reflections of the event.

Since the moment I stepped on campus, I’ve felt the loving atmosphere of this special community in upstate New York. Connecting with alumni who care vehemently about the success of the University and its students truly separates Â鶹Porn as a leading higher education institution. The academic environment is certainly a notable factor of the University’s prestige, but the resources, support, and passionate community set an unparalleled standard that encourages holistic growth and success. I am so grateful to have met many wonderful alumnae that serve Â鶹Porn through the Women’s Leadership Council. The Women’s Leadership Council is an empowering group of alumnae who selflessly work to ensure that current and future female students have the resources and opportunities to live passionately and boldly. Meeting these incredible women and connecting with the extensive alumni network has been truly transformative. Being able to learn from the women in the council inspires me to embrace the lessons of perseverance, determination, and grit during my time as a student-athlete at Â鶹Porn.

Rebecca Chopp recently spoke about her book Still Me during a virtual event hosted by Â鶹Porn's Office of Alumni Engagement. .
