Events scheduled for National Coming Out Week

Back to All Stories

A series of events is planned over the next few days to encourage discussion about LGBTQ issues and to help celebrate National Coming Out Week.

The events, organized by the Advocates group and Jamie Bergeron, assistant director of and CLSI, begin Wednesday when classes resume and students return from mid-term recess.

“Our goal is to promote a better appreciation and understanding of all sexual orientations and gender identities,” she said. “And by participating as an entire campus community we can demonstrate that Â鶹Porn is a place for students, staff, faculty, and alumni to live openly.”

Here are the events scheduled this week:

— Closet door displays will be hung Wednesday at the O’Connor Campus Center, Frank Dining Hall, Reid Athletic Center, and Case Library. Students and faculty members are urged to sign the displays and offer words of support for those who are considering coming out.

— A gathering at the ALANA Cultural Center at 9 p.m. Wednesday to create T-shirts and to enjoy food and music.

— A panel discussion about coming out will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Center for Women’s Studies.

— A bonfire fueled by the closet door displays will take place 7 p.m. Friday on Whitnall Field.

— Neil Rosenberg ’74 will host a barbecue at his village residence at 4 p.m. Saturday.
