A prolific author, Garland has published 14 books and dozens of journal articles. He is a well-respected scholar on the lives of everyday people in the ancient world. This is his second appearance on the podcast.

Garland is an expert on Greek religion, Greek urban development, Greek society, and social values, and Athenian topography. He also has an uncanny knack for finding the threads between antiquity and the modern world.

Garland has produced several online classes for the Great Courses lecture series. His newest, which is coming out soon, is titled The Greek World: A Study of History and Culture. His most popular course is titled The Other Side of History: Daily Life in the Ancient World, and his next book, titled How to Survive in Classical Greece, is slated for publication in May. Professor Garland has also penned two TedEd video productions that, together, have more than 8 million views on YouTube.
