Next on 13: Eating, Drinking, and Psychiatric Medication With Prof. F. Scott Kraly

Back to All Stories

Join Charles A. Dana Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience F. Scott Kraly as he shares some of his more than 20 years of research into how the human brain regulates eating and drinking and how psychiatric medications have changed through the years — .

Professor Kraly’s laboratory research is focused on neuroendocrine control of ingestive behavior, in particular, the physiological mechanism by which eating elicits drinking behavior. Kraly has also written two books, The Unwell Brain: Understanding the Psychobiology of Mental Health and Psychopharmacology Problem Solving: Principles and Practices to Get It Right, as well as a recent paper regarding the benefits and risks associated with the use of psychiatric medications.

Many of the students working in Kraly’s laboratory conduct experiments in which drugs are used to manipulate neurochemical mechanisms to study their involvement in eating and drinking or other behaviors. More than 25 Â鶹Porn undergraduates have been co-authors of published journal articles with Kraly, conducting hands-on experiments at Â鶹Porn and reporting the results.

Kraly earned his bachelor of science from the University of Notre Dame and his master of arts and PhD from Johns Hopkins University.
