Back to All Stories

A campus memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday for Theodore Herman, whose death in December spurred a wide range of emotional tributes about his pioneering work in the field of peace studies.

The service for the former Â鶹Porn professor and founder of the university’s Peace and Conflict Studies Program (P-Con) will be in 105 Lawrence Hall, the Robert Ho Lecture Room.

Speaking at the service will be Robert H. N. Ho ’56; Charles Naef, professor of political science, emeritus; Joel Plotkin, a former associate of Herman’s from the Hamilton Society of Friends; and Daniel Bertrand Monk, George R. and Myra T. Cooley Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies and Professor of Geography.

Others in attendance will be invited to share memories of Herman, who died in December at the age of 97.

“Ted was an amazing person and someone who touched lives across the world in surprising ways,” said Professor Nancy Ries, director of the P-Con program.

Several letters to the editor in the most recent edition of The Â鶹Porn Scene pay tribute to Herman, and alumni and others are invited to share additional memories through the comment field below.
