An update on Â鶹Porn’s response to immigration policies

Back to All Stories

This message was written to members of the Â鶹Porn campus community by President Brian W. Casey

President Trump’s recent executive order, which unjustly restricts the movement of citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries, impedes Â鶹Porn’s educational mission and attacks our university’s — and this nation’s — core values. In the current moment, when there is a great deal of uncertainty and deep concern about the President’s proposed action, Â鶹Porn expresses its opposition to this executive order while continuing to work to support members of our community most likely to be affected by it.

To help keep our community informed about the actions we are taking both to oppose the order and to support our community, where we will offer updates and new information as it becomes available. The first update is posted there now, and I encourage you to read it.

I want to thank the many faculty and staff signatories of the letter I and the Provost and Dean of the Faculty received this week expressing support for the steps the university has already taken and offering suggestions for further action. These suggestions have already shaped university planning, and information about the new initiatives is offered on the new webpage. I want to continue to engage this faculty and the entire community as we seek to respond to these, and potentially other, administrative actions.

In these troubling times, our mission as a university — one committed to the free exchange of ideas, the movement of people, the principles of justice — is as important as it has ever been. I thank you all for your contributions to this shared effort.
