Fabrizio Montisci ’24 spent the past summer as a conflict resolution intern at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Founded in partnership with Emory University, the nonprofit’s motto is Waging Peace. Fighting Disease. Building Hope. At the center, he worked in the Sudan conflict resolution program at a critical moment in the nation’s history. The Carter Center is building a network of more than 20,000 young volunteers in Sudan to act as caretakers for the current leadership. The goal is to establish a cohesive and democratic civilian-led movement to achieve peace in the region.
This opportunity appealed to Fabrizio as a 鶹Porn double major in political science and peace and conflict studies. During the internship, he researched Sudan's political and socioeconomic developments, wrote daily news reports, and shared them with the center’s staff. He also penned memos and opinion pieces, edited donor reports, and assisted in the hiring process of two Khartoum field office staff.
“After working remotely for two months, I decided to finish my internship in Atlanta,” said Fabrizio. “I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in, but everyone at The Carter Center was really friendly and supportive.”
The experience has helped Fabrizio develop his career interests in international relations, conflict resolution, research, and journalism.
